SPALS, Inc. is pleased to announce that we will now award TWO scholarships annually, in the amount of $1,500 each. Please follow the guidelines below in applying. 

REQUIREMENTS

	Applicant must be a U.S. citizen
	Applicant must be accepted as an entering or continuing, full-time student pursuing a master or doctoral degree in Speech Pathology and/or Audiology at a Louisiana university
	Applicant must have a verified cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale for all college courses
	The scholarship is a one-time award of $1,500 and is intended for tuition, books, and supplies.  A recipient is eligible to receive the scholarship only twice.  Applications must be submitted annually.
	Applications must be typewritten
	The application should be submitted in the order stated below:

1. Statement of purpose (maximum of 1 page)

2. Letter of acceptance from your university

3. 2 letters of recommendation

4. Grade transcripts

	The application and all accompanying attachments must be addressed to SPALS in a single envelope postmarked by July 1st.
	Please do not send application via certified mail, as it may delay delivery.

The grant is designed to award up to $1000 depending on the applicant’s needs.  There are no restrictions on what can be purchased with SPALS Grant funds. Suggestions include software to support areas of deficit needed, Professional Development for therapist and could include funding an expert in a needed area to address all therapists in a district.

 OVERVIEW

 Application Deadline:  July31, 2008 (after school is out but before our meeting before the conference)

Awards Announced: at the 2008 SPALS Conference (those awarded to be called ahead of time)

Project Period: October 2008-May 31, 2009 ( Money to be spent by January 31, 2009).

Eligible Applicants: Current SPALS Members who are Licensed Speech Therapists and Audiologists working in Louisiana Schools

Application Materials Needed for Submission: The completed application including a detailed budget and Principal’s Signature ( or Special Education Director’s signature if a system-wide program). 

POINTS TO CONSIDER 

	Only include your name and school name on the cover page of the application. DO NOT include teacher names or school names in the proposal.
	Projects should correlate with the district comprehensive curriculum and be designed to increase student achievement. Items ordered should support goals and objectives on IEPs.

            How will requested money be spent? List each proposed expense and include cost estimate for each item. If any additional funds will be used, include funding source(s).
